Solstice Greetings

Solstice approaches! 22nd December. Now that is exciting.
Meteor showers, The Geminids still continue in the night sky...In fact lie down and look up at the sky tonight...the clouds will part...I hope you'll get to see them. They'll continue to shower with up to 50 per hour until 17th Dec, my Birthday! What a lovely present from the universe , Thank You Cosmos. Cosmos is the opposite of Chaos, but I think they're the same thing. The harmonious order of the universe is chaos.
Merry Yule!

Spike Island

This is Spike Print studio where I do all my printing and etching
It's been a crazy year for me...a huge change, relocating and moving to live on a boat. It has brought many challenges, setting up a new network, finding where everything is, boat stuff, finding work, or shops to sell my Art...for those of you who have relocated and set up a new life on your own you'll know what I mean! Sometimes it has felt like it's one thing after...but when i reflect I have done quite a lot with my year, it's hard to see it when you've not stopped!

kissing trees coming to life

This is my latest copper plate in the process of being drawn... tomorrow if i finish today I'll bite it at Spike Print Studio... I love how they look at this stage and it's not often you get to see them like this for long. When the plates are bitten the black ground is removed after.

"Women whose chief companions are the forms and forces of outdoor Nature retain in their souls far more of the Pagan fantasy of their remote forefathers than of the systematised religion taught at a later date..."

Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d'Urbervilles 1891

Sol

Sol is my nephew...it seems only yesterday we were dancing to beastie boys and songs about kandinksy in the kitchen... When he was born over 15 years ago (!) he literally was the sunshine in my life, still is and Yes I'm a very proud Aunty El. Here he is on his BMX at a skate park next to the ocean on the North Coast of Cornwall. I love the way they choreograph their tricks together. He is getting real good.

Love Boat

A new Artist to the family, this picture is by Edie, my lovely niece. What a gorgeous picture. I love the heart she has drawn on the boat, it's giving me ideas for some new paintwork.

This story is written in the Dismaland programme...

Manifesto

A successful business man travels to a secluded island for his summer holiday.
One afternoon he is strolling across an idyllic golden beach when he sees a cluster of fishing boats pulled up to shore. In their shade sit a group of fisherman dozing. The businessman then spots a lone fisherman sitting on the prow of his boat staring out to sea. He strolls over and engages him in conversation.

'What's going on?' he asks
'I like to just sit and enjoy the view' the fisherman replies
So the businessman asks - 'Instead of sitting here enjoying the view, why don't you take your boat and go out fishing while these other guys are asleep?'
'Why would I do that?'  the fisherman asks.
'Well, I assume you'd catch a lot more fish if you were the only person out there' explains the businessman.
The fisherman nods and asks 'And then what?'
The business man smiles 'With the money you make from catching more fish you could buy a bigger boat and get some bigger nets - then you'd catch even more fish'.
The fisherman nods 'And then what? he shrugs.
The businessman frowns 'My friend - if you kept working hard and saved and invested every penny you earn, one day this whole beach could be filled with people working for you. You'd be the most successful fisherman in the whole area. You'd have fleets of boats working day and night - you'd be rich'.
'And then what?' asks the fisherman.
'Well then' says the businessman 'you could do anything you like...you could just sit here on the beach in the middle of the day and enjoy the view'...

300ft2 tiny home

Last year I joined the tiny home movement... I'm living in a space of about 300ft2, a 42ft narrowboat... I downsized on junk and it feels better to own less. My art studio didn't last long on the boat though... I am too messy.

Dismaland

This is probably the best exhibition of Artists ever!! It is well worth visiting if you can. Although it confronts you with the ugly truth of the world we are living in (google The Cruel Bus - I actually couldn't believe some of the stuff in there,... surveillance on workers, the fence, animal slaughter, evictions, arms trade fairs wtf). I left Dismaland thinking ahhh Thank God, there are people who think like me, there are in fact quite a lot of us and in that there is a great power to change things, to uncover the barbaric and corrupt, to open our eyes, and that maybe as much as we'd like to continue to live in the fantasy, it's not really an option. The reality is dark, what people are doing in this world for the sake of profit is evil. Like the banner says " IF YOU'RE NOT OUTRAGED, YOU'RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION"

Strike Magazine. Taking 'advertising into our own hands. It is after all a public space.
