Hello!
My name is Erin Macairt... i was born Erin Hawley but when my Grandma died we changed our name because Hawley wasn't my Dad's real name at all. My Grandma married a man that wasn't my Dads father and he didn't even know or meet the guy named Hawley.  Wiping out the male line my Dad chose my Great Grandmas maiden name Maccart, but wanted to use the non anglicised version! What's in a name!?
I have been drawing and creating for as long as I can remember....that is one thing about me that is a constant... ...creativity has always been flowing in one way or the other // mediums change and herbs might replace paint or textiles to paper.

I feel grateful to my parents for their encouraging support for total creative freedom when I was a kid.

Group Exhibition

I'm in a Group exhibition that OPENS THIS WEEK...Please come and have a look. It's held at the Gallery at Coexist, Hamilton House Bristol. My work in the show is based on the landscapes that surround Bristol and how a major part of the beauty of Bristol is that amazing landscapes surround the city and it's not too long before you're in the countryside...... x x x

peace camp

a couple of weeks ago i went to an art installation called PEACE CAMP, simultaneously held on the same weekend at different coastal locations around the U.K. celebrating landscape and love poetry.

. open only at night till sunrise, you walked a mile or so down a lantern lit muddy track to one of my favourite beaches in this area.. and into a field full of glowing tents, with a sound piece of spoken word  ... the stories i heard seemed to be quite cynical and sad :( , but it was a really comforting atmosphere to just lie down amongst the glow and listen, like having a bedtime story read with the sound of the ocean waves in the background. this night i even took a midnight swim in the sea, the stars were out, on the horizon the ferry was on it's way to france, the coast guard cottage had a warm flicker of candle light in the window and i felt as though i was in one of my etchings

beanstalk cottage

beanstalk cottage
this was my first ever etching, it's called Beanstalk Cottage and in the distance you can see the house which it's named after and has now opened as Beanstalk Tea Garden...oh so lovely and very english, with classic victoria sponge and cream teas, a good reward after a long walk over the Downs! you can find the gardens down the old coach road east from Firle toward Alciston......

possible

I get a little bit nerdy when it comes to polaroids,...Thank you Impossible Project (you're amazing!), they've made it possible to buy polaroid film in shops again including Clock Tower Cameras in Brighton.
could there be anything more delicious in my fridge? (not sure you should put them in there... but must be better than getting them too warm?!)New Polaroids coming soon! You can view recent polaroids i've taken on my flickr page...

In October 2008 The Impossible Project saved the last Polaroid production plant for integral instant film in Enschede (NL) and started to invent and produce totally new instant film materials for traditional Polaroid cameras. In 2010 Impossible saved analog instant photography from extinction...

Since a little kid i've loved polaroid. An instant photo - something real to hold in your hand, a little moment captured, a one-off image never to be repeated, something refreshing in the digital age. My Dad took hundreds of polaroids in the 70's and 80's... arty pictures and family photos. I have memories of the polaroid camera, the noise it makes as you press the button and it ejects the small square image that slowly develops in front of your eyes as if by magic. My Dad used the SX-70 which I've now borrowed forever from him, thanks Pops ;). He has been a massive inspiration to me. He is still an Artist and has been a Tattooist for over 25 years http://jimmacairt.com/, he also designs and makes tattoo machines available to buy.

Here are some of his polaroids taken in the 80's.
